How to enjoy healthy food to reach your weight loss goals

It has been a couple weeks since I have done a post and part of it is because I didn’t make it a priority, and part of it was I was not in the right mindset.  Today, I started a new program that I am going to share with you and teach you along the way how to enjoy healthy food and reach your weight loss goals, all at the same time! I want to be as honest as possible with my readers and I am fully admitting I have been in a little funk with how I feel about my fitness goals- and that is hard as a fitness coach herself to say. Now that it’s out, let’s get excited about this journey!

How am I changing my mindset?

When you are on your fitness/weight loss journey, your mindset is huge. So many people quit because they lose focus, motivation, and lets face it, we can easily let the busyness around us take over (kind of like I started to do myself).  But when you shift your focus on the small daily goals instead of only looking at the big end goal, you won’t get so frustrated and feel defeated.

What if I don’t like healthy food?

Guess what? I was not a fan of many veggies, but as I forced myself to eat them, I began to enjoy them more! Say WHAT?!? Yes. did you know that your taste buds change according to what you eat? Just like you eating sweets or bread, when you eat a lot of it, you will like them more and crave them more.  If you eat asparagus or broccoli, you will begin to enjoy them. Sometimes you just have to make the decision that you will eat for the nutrition and not for the taste!

But eating healthy is so expensive!?!? I’m on a budget, and don’t have extra money just for food.

Oh friends, so here is the deal. I get it, healthy food can be priced a little higher than unhealthy food… sometimes. But you know what the sad thing is? Many people who say they can’t afford healthy food are willing to spend $6-8 on fast food restaurants or even more at a sit-down restaurant. Heck, even a simple drink at Starbucks costs what, $4? People can eat a $5 bag of chips in one sitting, or even a carton of $4 ice-cream with Hershey’s syrup and peanut butter or whatever topping you like.

Did you know if you let go of the junk food, fast food, sodas or drinks with tons of sugar and calories (yes diet is bad for you too), you could actually SAVE money?

Yes, it’s true. I tried it, and I was successful after deciding to stop the Arby’s and Wendy’s (those were my go to fast food restaurants), and stopped the chips and dip, Oreos, candy and snacks and replaced it with healthy food and saved money each month! Incorporating my superfood shake  into my daily regimen has helped me and also gives me tons of nutrients that I do not get from typical foods at the grocery store to give me natural energy and to help keep me fuller longer.

TIP: Buy fresh and frozen veggies and fruit. Eat the fresh first, then finish the week with frozen! Canned is no good for you as it contains tons of sodium!

Can I really find healthy replacements for my favorite foods?

YES, you can! I realized today as I am only on day 1 of 2B Mindset, that I can eat foods that I never took the time to enjoy before, and actually like them!

Here is a good example! I love french fries. So I was told to buy turnips and make them into fries. WHAAAAAT?? Crazy talk?? Seriously, it works, and it was enjoyable for both my husband and I!

Here is how it is done.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large turnips
  • olive oil spray
  • Sea salt
  • pepper
  • garlic
  • paprika

Directions:

1. Pre-heat oven to 550 degrees.
2. Peel the outside of the turnips with a peeler.

3. Slice the turnip vertically into semi-thin slices

4. Slice again into long strips like french fries.

My dinner included these turnip fries, along with spaghetti made out of carrots spiraled into noodles and turkey meatballs with a little spaghetti sauce and parmesan cheese!

There you have it. This is just one example of how I am changing my habits, mindset, and attitude to achieve my weight loss goals. And it is not just about the weight, it is about feeling good and confident again, even after having a baby!
