Ok so here is the deal, so many people define Easter with bunnies, chocolate, eggs, and more sweets and more bunnies! But, it’s time to remember the REAL meaning of the holiday and how to have a healthy Easter!!

We actually have Easter because it was the day of Jesus’ resurrection. He died for our sins and rose again to give us access to a right relationship with Him! How incredible is that?!

So here we are, Easter weekend and we will be filled with temptations around us.. temptations with unhealthy foods and treats… a full schedule that can easily stop us from getting a workout. But guys, is the temporary temptation really worth moving back and removing all the hard work we put in? Or is it worth taking steps backward in our fitness journey and with our goals?

Let’s show ourselves we are capable of staying strong, staying dedicated, and having will power through this holiday and set the bar high for ourselves! YOU CAN DO THIS!!

It’s all about making healthy choices and finding healthy alternatives to what we want to eat that may not be as healthy.

Are chocolate bunnies and a ton of sweets REALLY necessary to have in the house and for the kids? I mean, are the kids going to suffer if they don’t see all this in their basket? NO!! It’s up to the parents to create new habits and make the holidays fun in other ways!

For instance, a friend recently commented on my post on Facebook when I asked what their families did for their kids for Easter. So I am going to share with you! Instead of filling eggs with chocolate and sweets, fill the eggs with little notes with different activities they can do as a family or extra special things they can do!

Ex: Date night with mom or dad, “get out of cleaning your room”, “get out of making your bed”, “extra 15 minutes on your iPad or tablet”, “Fishing day”, Game night with family, etc!  These are ideas I am using for my boys that they will be so excited about!

Other healthy ideas for the kids for Easter to put in their baskets:

  • Annie’s organic gummies
  • Annie’s organic snacks (crackers and cookies)
  • Egg shaped crayons with a coloring book or notepad (my kids love notepads because they get creative with their dinosaurs, sharks, and alligators)!
  • A swimsuit for summer
  • Flipflops
  • Legos (small ones.. that is)
  • Eggs with a few small coins for their piggy bank

I am not saying all of these should be in a basket, but these are some extra ideas that instead of spending your hard earned money on things that will make our kids unhealthy and obese, that we can use that hard earned money to keep them healthy and have fun!

Now, for us parents reading this, or if you do not have kids, we are still surrounded by temptations. So time to get our creative juices flowing and make Easter a HEALTHY holiday!

  1. Workouts- Holidays are NOT an excuse to skip a workout. In fact, getting in your workout FIRST thing in the morning will help you have energy throughout the day AND did you know that when you workout, your body is more likely to make healthier choices afterward? Make the  choice to get that workout in early so you can’t make an excuse later of being too busy when company comes or you have to travel.
  2. Water- Do yourself a favor and do NOT drink your calories! Water water water! It will help you from getting dehydrated, acts as a cleanse to your body to release toxins, AND it will help you feel full! Most people who “think” they are hungry, are usually just thirsty!
  3. Make healthy snacks! Instead of making dips and snacks loaded with carbs, sugar, and fats, make options that are lighter and will not make you feel tired and bloated. I promise you will thank yourself later!

Some examples of snacks I will be making for Easter this weekend:

Breakfast is going to be protein pancakes using Kodiak Cake Power Pancake mix! High in protein and kids love them!

With the hard boiled deviled eggs, I will replace the yoke and use hummus. And I am sure mine won’t turn out this cute, but I am going to give it a go!!
