Chances are at some time in your life, you’ve made a New Year’s resolution — and then broken it. This year, stop the cycle of resolving to make change and then not following through. If your resolution is to take better care of yourself and get healthy, you will have a much better year if your resolution sticks. Here are ten tips to help you get started.
1. BE REALISTIC
The surest way to fall short of your goal is to make your goal unattainable. For instance, resolving to NEVER eat your favorite food again or to workout 2 hours every single day is setting you up to fail. Instead, strive for a goal that is attainable, such as avoiding it more often than you do now. You know yourself, how much time you have, what changes you can make.
2. PLAN AHEAD
Don’t make your resolution on New Year’s Eve. If you wait until the last minute, it will be based on your mindset that particular day. Instead, it should be planned well before December 31st arrives. And if you didn’t that is okay – plan today. Remember you don’t need a New Year or a new month – just a new day with a new mindset.
3. OUTLINE YOUR PLAN
Decide how you will deal with the temptation to skip that exercise class or have that piece of cake. This could leaning on one of my challenge groups and myself for help, practice positive thinking and self-talk, or reminding yourself how your “bad” will affect your goal.
4. MAKE A “PROS” AND “CONS” LIST
It may help to see a list of items on paper to keep your motivation strong. Develop this list over time, and ask others to contribute to it. Keep your list with you and refer to it when you need help keeping your resolve.
5. TALK ABOUT IT
Don’t keep your resolution a secret. Tell friends and family members who will be there to support your resolve to change yourself for the better or improve your health. The best-case scenario is to find a buddy who shares your New Year’s resolution and motivate each other. You will find lots of these buddies in my challenge groups where we are constantly talking about our goals and if what we did today got us closer to our goals or further away.
6. REWARD YOURSELF
This doesn’t mean that you can eat an entire box of chocolates if your resolution is to eat a better diet. Instead, celebrate your success by treating yourself to something you enjoy that doesn’t contradict your resolution. If you have been sticking to your promise to eat better, for example, reward yourself with new fitness clothing or by going to a movie with a friend.
7. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
Keep track of each small success. Short-term goals are easier to keep, and each small accomplishment will help keep you motivated throughout the year. Instead of focusing on losing 30 pounds, focus on losing the first five. Keep a food journal to help you stay on track, and reward yourself for each five pounds lost.
8. DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP
Obsessing over the occasional slip won’t help you achieve your goal. Do the best you can each day, and take one day at a time. Just because you have a bad day or a bad meal doesn’t mean you should toss all your hardwork in the trash. If your cell phone has a crack in the screen, you don’t go and smash the rest of it – right?
9. STICK TO IT
Experts say it takes about 21 days for a new activity to become a habit and six months for it to become part of your personality. It won’t happen overnight, so be persistent and patient!
10. KEEP TRYING
If you have totally run out of steam when it comes to keeping your resolution by mid-February, don’t despair. Start over again! Recommit yourself for 24 hours. You can do anything for 24 hours. The 24-hour increments will soon build on each other and, before you know it, you will be back on track.
I am catching up on life (remodeling a kitchen and office at once really puts you in a tizzy lol) and wanted to share our amazing weekend that our top leaders went on this past week!!!
As a fitness coach, my goal is to not only keep myself accountable for my own fitness journey, but also help others along the way!! As I have been able to help others, we have also found that growing a team of other like-minded go getters has really helped us with freedom for our families and financially… and since my team has made so many sacrifices and worked so hard to get to where they are today, this retreat was a way to congratulate them, but also allow them to enjoy a little vacation while spending some QT together!!
One thing that was extra special to me this trip was that my husband Brent was able to join me on this trip!! This was his very first Beachbody event that he attended… now it was not planned by corporate so he didn’t see the huge training and extras that go with those events, but this was a perfect first that he watched me host, so that made it so special!
The only way he was able to go with me was if he was my assistant and helped with cooking all the meals for 25 women and helped keep the place clean! I would say him and our other male friend Jessie who came to do the same did an amazing job!!! I am so blessed that Brent was able to not worry about taking off work to be here with me!
I must say, I have to give him so much credit because there are not many husbands or guys out there who are willing to be in a houseful of 25 women to do what they did and not one time complained about ANYTHING!! Not even me being slightly needy and pregnant at the same time!!
This was also our very first big trip together and flying together! If you don’t know our story, we did things pretty quick.. Met, got engaged in 4 months, married in 6, pregnant in 7! And never had the opportunity to have a honeymoon because our schedules with work and kids just didn’t match!
So back to the trip!!! It felt so good to be able to grab a 30 person house to have us all stay together and get to know each other more and spend time together!! We came from all over the US: PA, WV, CA, MI, and
more!! We may not see each other as often as we want, but when we come together again, it feels like we have known each other forever and we pick up right where we left off!
Our theme for our retreat was “EMPOWER”- Our mission to to EMPOWER others to shoot for the stars, to overcome fear and do what makes them happy and what is important to them! So many people hold back because of fear, but we are all for taking leaps into the unknown, because as we did it ourselves, we found a beautiful world on the other side of fear and doubt!!
As I took this trip at 28 weeks pregnant, I did not know what I was going to get myself into with swelling and being in sunny Florida with 90 degree weather… yea, I have no clue how pregnant mommas do it lol!! I was SOOO swollen every day!!! But I didn’t let it get to me, I just kept on moving!! Yoga, MMA workouts, we did it all.. and rocked it!

I guess since we are fitness coaches, we can tap for a minute about nutrition! We had planned healthy meals for each breakfast, lunch, and dinner while in Florida:

And for breakfast, Green Protein Pancakes!! Ok I may have added peanut butter and bacon on it, but it was SOOOOO good lol!! Ps. Don’t knock it til ya try it!
Anndddd then came evening time.. I swear if my friends didn’t love cookies and didn’t suggest ice cream sundae parties, I would NOT have fallen off lol!! I can blame them right?? or blame it on the pregnancy??
Yes, my ice cream sundae was eaten in my two piece at 28 weeks pregnant and my belly was my table! LOL
During our retreat, we did have some training to continue empowering our leaders! Even leaders and successful coaches are hungry for more knowledge and growth!! And then after 2 days of training, we did finish off with a day in Epcot for the 25th year anniversary and wine and food festival… hold the wine please.. I’ll just take a sample of all the food!!
And then we did more work and had a photoshoot for some professional pictures.. as you can tell, with the little time we have, we get lots accomplished.. because busy people get stuff done!!!
I loved taking my pregnancy lifestyle pictures because this truly is ME!!! I love having the ability to be me, work from home, in yoga pants or comfy cotton dress with my belly hanging out, and helping others around the US/Canada, and soon to be UK!! Thanks to social media, it allows me to reach and help so many more people than just those in my community!!
It is so crazy to know this is our lives!! We pick the hours we want to work, we travel just a couple times a year (if we want) to meet up, have fun, get more training, and create memories, but we are women of all sizes and ages working on ourselves and our own fitness journeys, and hoping to help others who can relate to us along the way!
I am so thankful God has placed this opportunity in my hands almost 5 years ago when I was working full time swing shifts as a nurse with a newborn and 1 year old, and just wanting a way to have more freedom and time with my boys!!

Use your excuse for having kids to help you push for your goals!
How many of you actually can say you love EVERYTHING about your current career with whatever it is you do? Do you pick your hours of when to clock in, pick what days you work, do you take off for vacation whenever you need, do you pick who you work with, work in workout clothes, and do you get to work from home (to be with your kids)? These are some of the reasons that my old career didn’t fill my cup.. I know most people are probably like… Uhhh Deidra, that’s called a JOB.. Get over it!! lol.. BUTTTTT, hear me out! The problem is although so many are unhappy having to go to their job, they settle for less, because they think thats their only option or they wouldn’t ever have an opportunity to have a career where they have so much freedom!
Well, I can tell you this, YOU my friend, are in total control of your career choice, your freedom, and your success!!
My nursing career did make me happy.. The part of my helping others and interacting with my patients and working on my skills. Yes, it made me very happy. But when I sat down and wrote down the PRO’s and CON’s (which I did) one day, I realized there is something else out there that could fulfill my life more. Yes, I guess you can say I was being a little selfish. But you know what?? If I didn’t do what made me happy, then it would affect my attitude, my family’s happiness, and my life! So why not take advantage of the opportunities that come your way?!
My opportunity came when I was working on my fitness journey after having my 2nd baby!! I was in the ER working full time hours, in school for my masters classes to work as a certified school nurse, and just trying to find something that would be a better fit for my family! Well, I think God knew how much I loved fitness and helping others live a healthy lifestyle, so this was placed in my hands!! I was asked to join a company called Beachbody to continue my fitness journey and stay accountable, help others, but be able to do it all from home and making my own hours! When I realized there were a good bit of successful people in this company, I thought, WHY NOT ME?!?
As I continued my journey with Beachbody and doing the programs such as Insanity(high impact cardio and plyo training), Turbo Fire(dancing cardio), and 21 Day Fix(our top program with a variety of exercise, and focused around nutrition and portion control), eating clean and drinking Shakeology every day, the results I was getting were amazing!! I lost 40 pounds and over 30 inches!! Say what?!?! It made me feel happy, confident, and gave me an urge to give this to someone else! I started sharing my journey, and before I knew it, others were relating to me as a mom, nurse, and fitness lover!
After 1 year of working 1 hour a day on my new career, I was able to match my full-time nursing income just by working from home! It wasn’t until 2 years into my fitness career with coaching that I retired completely from nursing because I was growing such a large team, that if I didn’t quit, one, I was not able to give the other my fullest potential! Today, I am earning my yearly salary as a full-time Nurse, in just 2 months with my fitness income!! Even more, I am home with my kids… my biggest reason for doing what I am doing!

We have the freedom, we all working on a healthy life-style, there is no boss telling me when to clock in, telling me when I can take off, and Im in control of my success!! If I want to build my income, I simply help more people!

Oh it has been quite the journey! 20 weeks of prepping for 1 amazing and unforgettable day!! I honestly did not know what to expect, since the last show at 18 years old, I had NO idea what I was doing and don’t even remember it! My show was Saturday in Harrisburg, PA so I went to the hotel and stayed the night before so I can register and get checked in, get my spray tan, and relax!! That definitely called for a little mental preparation!!
I went alone and it was honestly the first time I ever have traveled and even stayed in a place by myself! Im becoming a big girl lol!! I met a few of the girls Friday night and then met my makeup artist to figure out my colors.
I knew I would not be able to sleep well, and of course I was right.. I think I was up every hour to make sure I wouldn’t sleep through my alarm! I woke up Saturday at 5 to get my makeup done and then my hair and touch up spray tan… HOLY DARK!! I forgot how dark they get you for show day!
The pre judging started at 10 am and I was so thankful to see my family, friends, and trainer to come and support me.. and of course my videographer Sarah Yoh who has been amazing through it all!! Sarah has filmed my journey starting 4 weeks out so I am so excited to see the final results of that!!

Finals were at 6pm Saturday and we did our Individual rounds again and winners were awarded their trophies.. This was just so much fun and really a great experience overall!! For my first show, this was perfect with how small it actually was!! I would not change a thing about it!

What is really awesome about this before and after is when I was 20 weeks out, I NEVER went to the gym. I strictly used my Beachbody programs T25,PiYO,P90X3, INSANITY, and 21 DAY FIX! Never lifted weights at the gym, strictly my home fitness programs and drinking SHAKEOLOGY once daily in place of a meal along with clean eating.

I jump for joy every time I am able to talk about this coach success story! This story is so special and touches me because I know so many people can relate with her!! Get ready to be inspired!
Natasha signed up with me almost a year ago and was so excited to work as a health and fitness coach with Team Beachbody! She is also a Registered Nurse and works with me in the Emergency Room. She came over my house and was so excited to get started with coaching… She had goals and all these intentions, but there was something missing. She didn’t pursue anything, never acted upon what her goals were, and never followed through. It was sad because I saw the potential she had, and I saw it going to waste.
When I asked her why she was not doing anything about her goals, her response was “I’m afraid no one will join me, and I don’t know who to go to.” After that, she continued using SHAKEOLOGY and continuing to stay a coach for the discount.
Then, just about 2 1/2 months ago, I saw an email that Natasha decided to cancel her coaching account…I quickly went to her at work and asked WHY?!?!? I see so much potential and she obviously loves helping people, loves health and fitness… I wanted to change her mind for her lol. She stated she was not doing anything with the business aspect and didn’t think she could get back into it since its been so long and got nothing out of it.
Within those 3 days she had to change her mind before Beachbody completely canceled her account, she came to me and said, Im changing my mind and ready to work the business and help people! I have goals of working part time so I can be with my family and watch my kids grow one day and not work holidays and weekends (Yes, this is what benefits you get as a Beachbody coach)!
Whatever clicked with Natasha, really clicked. That very next day, she started talking to people about joining her challenge group (support and accountability group) and join her team as a health and fitness coach!
From that point on, she grew from a discount coach canceling her coach account, to rank advancing to diamond in 2 months, and adding other coaches who love helping others, and also running challenge groups to help people reach their own health and fitness goals!
What a turn around! She has become so successful and now sees her potential.. She sees whats possible with Beachbody as a career!!
Being able to work your own hours, work from home, and having the accountability to reach and maintain your own health and fitness goals is such a great benefit with coaching! Natasha has even already signed up for next years Summit in Nashville TN, which is our biggest training event of the year with Beachbody!

It has been a rough weekend!! Way too many temptations in my way!!! On a good note, I did stay strong for the most part, getting in every workout I needed to. My nutrition stayed on track during the day and I was very strict, but from Friday until yesterday, I had 1 meal off and now its official… NO MORE CHEAT MEALS until show time!!!
I can definitely tell a difference with my body and feel like I’m starting to tone certain areas of my body, especially my deltoids, quads, and back! YAY!!!

16 1/2 weeks out
People have been asking me, “why are you doing that to your body?”, and “why are you trying to look like a man?”…. Oh silly questions… heres the deal for anyone interested in my answer… And please don’t take this harsh… I would never tell anyone how to live their life and what to do with their body unless they ask for my help, so I would expect the same in return! We have our own life for a reason, and its to do what we want with it! So please let me live my life how I want and do what i want to my body!
I feel amazing being able to have all this energy for my kids, and to look healthy and good for them… Teaching my boys early about health and nutrition is important so they can follow in my footsteps and not be over weight and make bad choices when they are independent.
I never force anything upon them, but it felt damn good yesterday when I went for my last cheat meal at red robin and my 3 1/2 yr old wanted apples over french fries! That right there shows Im doing something right!!
Thats my WHY!! 😉

Its so easy to say, “its too expensive” or “I don’t have time to eat healthy”, but did you think about how expensive fast food is, or doctor visits, hospital stays, or medication? Did you think about how long it takes to go through a drive though and wait in line? By the time you are done waiting in line, your shake could be made and you save 4$ each meal!!
So if your WHY is important enough and you are ready to commit to your health, its time to set excuses aside and really take action to provide your body with nutrients to fuel your body and improve your overall health and well-being!
PiYo every morning!
I have done PiYo every morning as my morning workout and it feels so good to get in that stretch, especially after lifting!
It is important to me to maintain my flexibility now that I got it with 60 day PiYo test group, so my mission is to continue building with this!
This workout has been very easy for me to do with my children at home because the moves are attempted by my children without them getting injured! So its a win-win for all!!
So overall, I had a great week (minus 3 off meals), but have done a ton of workouts, so I saved myself with those!! Now its game on, and I am slightly nervous, but I have to make it happen! What better way to keep myself accountable than posting it to the world!!

Oh what a week it was!! So, I have had a lot going on with traveling back and forth around Pittsburgh and my diet was not on track AT ALL!! I’m only human and I do not want to lie about my journey so here it is! Time to keep myself accountable!! I did good throughout the week with my meals, but ever since my son’s 2nd Birthday on Thursday, this girl FELL OFF THE WAGON… HARD!! Cake, ice cream and more cake and ice cream lol…
I could tell such a huge difference when I do the same workouts, but fall off with my diet.. It shows that nutrition is 80% of your results… NOT LYING about that!
So Ive been going strong with my workouts, focusing on my back, shoulders, and legs.. Getting in cardio two times a day, once in the morning and 30 min of incline fast pace walking post workout.
WEEK 4 FIGURE PREP
I love running into my little accountability partner at the gym! We have the same trainer, so this is such a fun experience!!

This was a very special Super Saturday!! There were approx 500 coaches and non-coaches that attended and I was able to see one of my own coaches go up on stage and speak about her weight loss story as one of our weight loss transformations!!
Michele C. is a mom of 3, has 3 jobs (working as a coach, and a nurse with me in the ER, and also a school nurse at Penn State), and will be turning 50 next year! She is not letting any of her excuses get in the way and has lost 30 lbs to date using FOCUS T25 , 21 DAY FIX, and SHAKEOLOGY!!! So exciting!!! Seeing her transform in person is so rewarding and this is exactly why I do what I do as a health and fitness coach! I live for seeing people happy and confident!! To see people make a total transformation inside and out! Its amazing what you can do if you want something bad enough and commit!

As you see, working as a health and fitness coach is quite the rewarding career… I have grown an amazing team that is driven to succeed, goal oriented, friendly, passionate, caring, and fun.

Wednesday was our first big day! We had an Elite celebration and I was in awe when I got to the reception/cocktail party! We had first chance to purchase from the CORE which is the store with all the Beachbody swag!! I was able to bring a guest with me, so I chose my cousin Michael, who was my very first diamond! This was seriously the most memorable night for me… I remember walking in and seeing that star with my name on it, and then Tony Horton was standing right there!! I was handed a gift and asked to sign my star! Nothing like feeling like a celebrity for a day right?!? Thursday, I took a leap of faith and put myself in a Beachbody Classic Bikini Competition!! As scary as it was, I know I need the experience since I am prepping for a FIGURE NPC show in Oct and I need to learn some posing!
Although I didn’t make it to top 20, I learned a lot and had so much fun!! Its not about winning, its about being better than you were yesterday!! I am 18 weeks out from my show and I am confident, this is going to help me with my experience!!! I am showing my progress from losing 40 lbs and 40 inches since having my second child and going through my Beachbody transformation!! I have done this ALL just by home DVD programs and drinking Shakeology!! GO ME!!!!
It didn’t matter how busy we were, this girl was with me to work out and run around Vegas like crazy people!! We ran for 45 min up and down steps, in and out of crowds, and this was the best workout I had outside!!!! So much fun!!
Thursday night was our Studs and sequin party by the pool!! It was a great night and was able to spend lots of time with my coaches and friends!

Friday I had an opportunity to meet all the celebrity trainers with Beachbody who have made such a huge impact on not only my life, but my family and friends as well! It was so awesome to have time to actually see how they are in person! PS. They are just the same as they are in their videos!! 😉

One of my favorite sessions at summit was Daren Hardy, writer of Compound Effect which was my first Personal Development book I ever read! How awesome it was to actually see him in person!!
He actually was even more impressive than in his book and his book is amazing!!
He talks about failure and how you cannot let failure be a characteristic of who you are… Failure happens to everyone, even the most successful people! His childhood was full of failures, but that was only a perfect way to create who he is today- a successful person! Turning failure into fun is how you over come your obstacles and weaknesses and turn them into strengths that one day you can look back and say “I DID IT” and “IM STRONGER BECAUSE OF THAT!”

Friday afternoon, I had the opportunity to share my PiYo results and transformation with beach body by having an interview and photo shoot to possible be in an infomercial for PiYo workout! How awesome would it be to see myself on TV?!?! AHHH!!!

Friday evening was our Star Diamond reception. I actually had a contest for my coaches for whoever earned the most success club points in a two week period would earn a date with me to the party! My coach Michael won! It was so awesome walking into Chalene calling us over for a pic!

Saturday was another general session for all the coaches! We had lots of recognition and people on stage talking about their success as a coach and their stories behind their journey! It was so inspiring and really makes you think that anything is possible if you want something bad enough!
Saturday morning, I was on stage for the first time in front of over 9,000 people to be recognized as an Elite coach! This is seriously an amazing feeling!! Hard work truly pays off!!

One of the best perks of being Elite was having my own seats saved for me with my name on it! Each general session, I was able to have a guest to enjoy VIP seating! I was able to take turns with my coaches who came with me!

This Summit experience was something that will stick with me forever!! Not only having my own team there was so special to me, but just seeing all the success and knowledge that was provided to me to help my business was so fulfilling! I am so thrilled to now utilize what was given to me into our coach basics trainings, and challenge groups to help my customers get the most of their journey so everyone can be successful at their goals!!
Its time to bring it up a notch and really expand our success to everyone, everywhere!!

So this was the first FULL week of me back at the gym lifting weights in 4 yrs!! I cannot believe it has been that long since I actually was active in a gym, but I am so proud to say I got my body using home fitness programs through TEAM BEACHBODYand keeping up with my nutrition using SHAKEOLOGY!
This week, my regimen consisted of 5 days of lifting, cardio every morning and 20 min of cardio post-workout.
Four of these mornings, I actually did PiYo because I am so hooked on it after being part of Beach body’s PiYo test group and seeing great results!
I was able to find my abs and lots of toning and strength in my upper body!
If you want to learn to do push ups and tricep push ups in your sleep, PiYo is going to get you there for sure! Oh and the flexibility you get from the program is UNREAL!!!
If you are wanting to get involved with the new PiYo workout, I will say it is great for ANYONE!! Whether you have back or knee injuries, this program is low impact and no jumping!!
Not only does the program have great exercises for your body, but the nutrition guide is EASY and will show you RESULTS!!

Back to my 2nd week of training! You now know what my morning workouts consist of, and I am separating my lifting days by Leg day, back, shoulders, arms (bis and triceps).
I am only doing my arms once every 3 weeks or so because I have too much going on there.. I need to bring out my shoulders to have more of a V shape! My legs are what I really need to work on.. so that is twice a week.. I already did hamstrings and glutes as a separate day and tomorrow I will be focusing on quads!
My post workouts are fast paced paced on very very high incline on the treadmill. I am not use to all this low impact exercise, but its definitely working!! Its crazy to know all these years, I thought the only way to get results is by killing my body, sprinting, and jumping up and down! Totally not the case!!
On to my nutrition! Let me just tell you how important it is to be on a strict regimen.. I have found myself on top of my nutrition now that I am holding myself accountable and made this goal of doing my figure show in October! I am doing weekly meal plans, prepping all my food, and really focusing on eating every 2 and 3 hours. It is definitely very hard to do, especially when you have to force food in your mouth when your not even hungry, but I know its for the best and will pay off!! I know its so early in the game, and will get much harder, but I can definitely handle this! I am doing All chicken (6 oz each meal), egg whites (6-10), and my Shakeology shakes with 1/2 scoop whey protein for my protein intake. For my heavy carbs, I am doing sweet potatoes and oatmeal. I also am doing 2 apples a day. For my veggies, I have green beans, peppers, and salads this week. It is so easy to prep when you eat the same thing every day!!
One of my favorite days was LEG DAY! Its totally a love/hate relationship… Hate- because I can barely walk after my workout and days after… Love- because I get to eat WHATEVER I WANT within an hour of my workout LOL!
I had to do Red Robin!! I even ordered an appetizer which I NEVER DO!! I took my kids with me and had a date!! I ate those nachos with chili and guacamole so fast people probably thought I never ate before lol!!
Then of course my main entree came and I devoured that too like it was nobodies business!! It was a bonus that I was able to have my spicy ranch with my seasoned fries!!
I felt terrible for the first hour after, but surprisingly, I was fine after and the next day, did not feel bad at all!! I guess this is what happens when you are that strict every other day!! You can afford that cheat meal and you wont have to feel guilty!!
I can definitely tell my metabolism is increasing since doing PiYo and now incorporating weights into my routine! I am so darn excited about really being serious about this competition!! My body does not feel deprived of nutrients, energy, or sleep! I am feeling amazing and like a million bucks!! Lets see in a couple months if this changes lol!!
Well I think I am done for now, today was my off day for weights, but I did do cardio, so Saturday is a weight day, and Sunday is another off day for weights, but will continue cardio 7 days a week for now!
Next week I am in Vegas for Beachbody and I am sooooooo excited to come back and share all my exciting news with everyone!! I have lots going on, so you definitely want to stay tuned!!!
